If we buy into your core idea we’re going to want to know how we can take action on that idea and how we can go deeper.Kymberlee

You’ve started your talk strong. Maybe you’ve opened with a story and then you’ve revealed your core idea. From there, you’ve justified the core idea. You’ve told us why this matters and why it matters now.

From there, you move onto the how part of your talk. How can I implement this idea that you’re sharing with me? Why should I implement it? Why should I care about this? You have an opportunity in this section to go much deeper into your core idea. You can use facts and figures and statistics to help illustrate how important your core idea really is.

Now in this section, you can have up to three lessons, but no more than three, and here’s why: An audience, especially in a short form talk, they can’t remember more than three. Keep it to a three-part lesson or less. You can use story to help illustrate those lessons, to bring those lessons to life, to help us understand what you’re trying to tell us, because we want to know how. We want to know. If we buy into your core idea, we’re going to want to know how we can take action on that idea and how we can go deeper. This is the section that you can do it in.
